Akel Homes’ Women Participate in Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Event

Akel Homes participated in Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Event, where women are provided with the opportunity to learn how to build and construct a home alongside other volunteers and the Habitat homeowner themselves. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization where prospective homeowners and volunteers work alongside one another to build their home. Akel Homes, a boutique, semi-custom homebuilder based in South Florida, enters the final stages of building Villamar at Toscana Isles, a single-family home development centrally located in Palm Beach County.
Habitat for Humanity consists of one of the three non-profit organizations that Akel Homes has chosen to sponsor within its local community. Under the guidance of construction professionals, volunteers learn new skills while serving their community in a way where they can make a lasting impact. the Women Build Event gathers women together to collaborate on a building project. At Akel Homes, Elisabeth Akel, Vice President, Teresa Tigert, Director of Purchasing, and Jessica Spies, Field Coordinator all served their community at the Women Build Event on May 5th, 2021.
The Akel Homes’ women assisted in building a home that will belong to the Michel Family, the newest Habitat for Humanity Homeowner, by specifically participating in the roofing activities. Habitat for Humanity provides volunteers with a true hands-on experience in regards to homebuilding and the Akel Homes’ team intends on continuing to give back to their local community in as many ways as they can.
It was such a privilege to participate in the Women Build Event, and it truly provided us with just the smallest insight as to what our subcontractors endure on a day-to-day basis and the physical demands required by their job, throughout the entirety of the construction process. Through this experience, we grew a broader understanding of the demands of their job that allowed us to truly commend them for their tremendous hardworking efforts.
