Akel Homes’ Women Participate in Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Event

Akel Homes participated in Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Event, where women are provided with the opportunity to learn how to build and construct a home alongside other volunteers and the Habitat homeowner themself. This annual fundraising event brings women together to help transform communities. Women Builders raise paintbrushes, hammers, roofs, and money to help hard-working, low-income families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through access to affordable homeownership.

On March 3rd 2022, Teresa Tigert (Director of Purchasing), Ersilia Moreno (Controller), Jessica Spies (Field Coordinator), Alyson Currao (Operations Manager), and Destiny Morinvil (Accounts Payable Assistant) at Akel Homes all served their community at the Women Build Event. Each participant selects a half-day build shift during the two-day event. To make the Women’s Build event possible participants are asked to each donate or raise a set dollar amount that goes to support the 2022 Women’s Build and Habitat’s overall mission in our community. Habitat for Humanity exceeded their goal by raising over $264,000!

The Akel Homes Women participated in painting activities, which benefited the James Family; the newest Habitat for Humanity homeowner. Habitat for Humanity provides volunteers with a true hands-on experience in regards to homebuilding and the Akel Homes’ team intends on continuing to give back to their local community in as many ways as they can. Habitat for Humanity is one of many, non-profit organizations that Akel Homes sponsors within its local community.

Akel Homes is committed to making a positive difference in communities where we live and build. Akel Cares is our initiative to support worthwhile causes that share the same values and principles of Akel Homes. These causes include but are not limited to education, financial stability, hunger relief, housing, health and first responders/veterans. By purchasing your new home from Akel Homes, you have chosen a builder that is committed to dedicating time, energy and resources to improve the lives of others. At the Closing, Akel Homes will donate a total of $300 to be distributed among one, two, or three of the below non-profit organization selected by Purchaser in their honor.

It was truly rewarding to meet the James Family. As a team, we were able to be surrounded by amazing women, volunteering their time and giving back to the community. I am truly honored to be a part of the James Family’s purchase of their very first home.

About Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity serves people in your community, and all over the world, to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With your support, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families. Since the founding of Habitat in 1976, Habitat has helped more than 29 million people build or improve the place they call home.

About Women Build Event

Women Build opportunities are available across the U.S., and any woman who wants to learn how to build and construct a home is invited to join. No experience is necessary. Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and also alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. Whether you are learning new skills or simply adding a few to your tool belt, this is a rewarding experience for all involved, and improves the community that you share.
