Akel Homes and St. Lucie County Education Foundation Present $20,000 to St. Lucie Board of Schools to Support Traffic Control Project

In a collaborative effort to enhance traffic management and inspire the next generation of technology innovators, Akel Homes, in partnership with the St. Lucie County Education Foundation, presented a $20,000 check to the St. Lucie Board of Schools during their August 13th school board meeting. The donation includes a $10,000 contribution from Akel Homes, which was generously matched by the St. Lucie County Education Foundation.

The funds will support the pioneering Traffic Control Project, a forward-thinking initiative developed in collaboration with the City of Port St. Lucie. The project leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to modernize traffic management systems, aiming to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and provide hands-on coding experience to local high school students. By involving students in the coding and implementation of these cutting-edge technologies, the program seeks to foster interest in technology and equip young minds with practical problem-solving skills.

Nanette Plescia and Lauren Zinn of Akel Homes joined Thom Jones, President of the St. Lucie County Education Foundation, to present the check. “We are proud to contribute to a project that not only addresses critical infrastructure challenges but also empowers students with valuable skills for the future,” said Lauren Zinn, Director of Marketing for Akel. “Our partnership with the Education Foundation underscores our commitment to both the Port St. Lucie community and the advancement of technology education.”

This project represents a unique opportunity to engage students with real-world applications of technology, preparing them for careers in an increasingly digital world. As a local homebuilder with long-term plans to build homes in the area, Akel Homes is deeply committed to contributing to the well-being and growth of the community.
