Akel Homes’ Women Participate in The Professional Women in Building Philanthropy Luncheon

Akel Homes participated in The Professional Woman in Building Philanthropy Luncheon and Toiletry Drive. Members had the opportunity to donate toiletries to show their support and empowerment to survivors of Domestic Abuse. PWB is an organization whose primary goal is to support the voice of women in the building industry.

The Professional Women in Building Council, an affiliate of the Gold Coast Builder’s Association (GCBA), provides women with the opportunity to network with other professionals as well as seek opportunities for developing. The Gold Coast Builder’s Association is a dedicated South Florida builders association with a reputation of excelling in Palm Beach Governmental affairs. Women within the council have access to professional development resources, a large network of residential construction industry professionals, as well as various platforms for them to enhance leadership skills to gain a competitive edge and ensure that they shine amongst the crowd.

On October 19th, members of The Professional Woman Council brought in their toiletry donations. Between offices, whoever collects the most items (determined by weight) will receive one free PWB membership. The Akel Homes women, including Teresa Tigert: Director of Purchasing, Jessica Spies: Field Coordinator, and Alyson Currao: Executive Assistant brought the most toiletries in weight. Overall, The PWB raised over $1,000 dollars.

At the event, Janelle Khan (Development Director of AVDA) attended the luncheon. In her presentation, Janelle discussed the importance of their organization, alongside different ways to help AVDA. The floor was open to members, with the opportunity to ask questions.

Domestic Violence Awareness takes place in the month of October. At the Luncheon, members wore the color Purple to show their support for women escaping domestic violence. The color purple is a symbol of peace, courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending violence. At the end of the event, member received a better understanding how their contribution will support those fleeing from domestic violence.

“The Professional Women in Building Council is all about empowering women; as soon as we heard about AVDA, we knew that was the organization we wanted to align with. There is nothing more inspiring than a woman working to own her happiness and gain her power back. We are more than grateful to remind them that they are strong and worthy, and that they are not alone in their journey.”  -Teresa Hugo-Tigert, Director of Purchasing at Akel Homes/PWB VP of Events.
