Akel Homes Sponsors a Holiday Tree Decorating Contest

We gathered Palm Beach County's brightest and best to decorate holiday trees for prizes that contribute to their own community and education.
Come Out and Support Your Local School or Organization!
On Saturday, November 23rd, participants from the local community were involved in a Tree Decorating Contest. Teams from Academy for Positive Learning Charter School, Christa McAuliffe Middle School, Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, and Renaissance Charter School at Central Palm participated in the event and decorated trees of varying unique and traditional themes. Now, they require your support. Come out and vote for your favorite tree because monetary prizes will be provided to the winning teams to support their school/organization.
Tree Decorating Contest
Teams were innovative with their ideas and implemented them in varying ways. Academy for Positive Learning Charter School created stunning handmade ornaments and decorations for their trees. Meanwhile, Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida and Renaissance Charter School at Central Pam went the more traditional route and decorated their trees utilizing Christmas theme.
However, Christa McAuliffe Middle School took it upon themselves to incorporate their own school pride into the theme of their tree. They utilized a space theme and dedicated it to the explosion of the Challenger. On January 28th, 1986, the explosion of this space shuttle killed seven crewmembers, including the first teacher to go into space named Christa McAuliffe. It was a prominent time in history that drastically altered NASA’s program for the future, and the astronauts that passed away will always be remembered.
